FACES OF SUCCESS AND YOU COULD BE NEXT!

So, you’re finally ready to organize that chaotic space you’ve been putting off? That’s great, but before you tackle it on your own there are some important things to keep in mind. You’ve heard the saying, “Don’t go to the supermarket while you’re hungry.” The same idea applies when shopping for organizational products. Although you may enter a store with good intentions, you could wind up overspending and find yourself with a house full of boxes, bins and shelving – so that your once cozy home now looks like a warehouse. It’s easy to be tempted to buy all of the bright and colorful storage items displayed. Remember, though, buying something to put your things in won’t automatically solve the problem. Don’t buy anything without a plan. Here are some things to know before you go:
1. Measure Up!
Study your space and take good measurements of the walls and shelves. Write down the dimensions you have to work with and take your notations with you to the store.
2. Take Pictures!
Photographs of your space are very helpful to have while shopping. They provide a better visual idea of what’s needed and ensure what you are buying works in your space.
3. Take Count!
Whatever you’re storing, count how many items you have, so you buy something that can hold it all. (For example: How many pairs of shoes are going into storage?)
4. Make a List!
Look around at what you have and make an actual list of the things you need to find storage solutions for. (For example: Batteries, wrapping paper.) There are many containers available that are made especially for specific items.
5. Take Action!
Try to purge through your stuff, eliminating the need to buy unnecessary storage items. If you don’t keep it, you won’t need to store it…PROBLEM SOLVED.
