ELA (ENGLISH) AND MATH SCORES 2016

By: Madeleine Broder

Each year, the elementary school children in our community yeshivot take various forms of standardized exams. The most popular exam administered is The New York State Department of Education ELA and math tests. These test scores are published each year and made publicly available online at: www.bit.do/2016Scores.

Below, we have summarized the published data on community schools that participate in these exams. The data compares the math and reading skills of children in our schools to their counterparts in public and private institutions throughout New York.

While standardized test scores have many supporters and detractors and their use is widely debated, the scores below should be of interestto any parent in our community schools.

What you can do? Be a model for literacy and numeracy in your home. Discuss basic English and Math curriculum objectives with your children’s teachers and school educators. Get help for your child when needed. With your increased involvement, we’ll hopefully come closer to our desired goal, which is to see these numbers rise.
