Some New York educators in a bizarre case of political correctness have banned references to dinosaurs, birthdays, dancing and dozens of other topics on city-issued tests. They say that the mention of dinosaurs might upset those who do not believe the universe dates back billions of years, and mentioning birthdays could be offensive to members of a Christian religious sect, who do not celebrate birthdays. Although they banned the word “dancing”, the city did make an exception for ballet. These changes are being implemented in time for the retooling of New York City’s English, math, science and social studies tests given several times annually to measure student progress.
