Wireless connections for your iPhone or BlackBerry are now available in the middle of the ocean or at the North Pole, should you ever find yourself there. The satellite phone network Iridium Communications Inc. plans to sell a wallet-sized box which connects to a phone to create a Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing smartphones and tablet computers to connect to the internet via satellite. The connection speed is slower than dial-up, but good enough to send and receive emails. The AxcessPoint box will cost under $200 and the data plan costs about $1 per minute. While satellite phones that works with the device costs $1,000, they can also be rented as needed from GlobalCellularRental.com.
