Forget about it!
Forget about…using Saran wrap in the microwave. You’ve most probably heard someone in your life urge you against it, and you’ve wondered: Why? When the plastic that covers your favorite dish heats up, unhealthy chemicals are released and subtly absorb themselves into your unsuspecting food. That is particularly a no-no when food is fatty or sugary, and the cling wrap actually touches your food.
Next time you want to pop those leftovers into the micro’, though, don’t flinch. Simply cover with waxed paper, a paper towel or another plate, and you’re good to go.
Go for it!
Peeling the skin off of fruits and veggies is a no-brainer even with thin skins like apples, tomatoes and peppers. Place them in a bowl of boiling water and allow to stand for 1-2 minutes. You’ll see how easily the skin will peel off with your knife or peeler. If you haven’t even got the minute or two to spare, simply hold the food with a fork over a stovetop flame until you see the skin beginning to crack.
