The first stainless steel and sparkling glass panels that will cover the bottom 20 stories of the Freedom Tower have now begun to appear, and are drawing admiration from onlookers. Meanwhile, the steel structure for the new World Trade Center building has reached over 48 floors. Workers are working steadily, adding about one floor of steel per week. The $3.2 billion building is expected to open in 2013 and will stand as the tallest in the Americas at a height of 1,776 feet, second in the world to Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The tower was designed by David M. Childs in a way that it will refract light, giving it a different appearance depending on the weather or angle one views the tower.
